New Videos Section Coming

As our website grows, it puts a bigger and bigger load on the server. We now have over 50,000 pages and more than 15,000 hits each day.

Because of this growth, we are having problems with our videos section getting updated regularly. For the geeks, the cron run is taking too long and hanging, so we need to put the videos in their own subdomain and issue its own cron.

For the non-geeks,  the videos section is one of our most popular features. The new videos section now being built will allow us to provide you with the very latest videos and more of them.

We decided to let you see the new section, even though it isn't finished. Just click on this link and you will see our work in progress. Plus, you will see the very latest videos available for the categories we have completed or nearly completed. Everything should be functional, just not very pretty yet.

Thank you for coming to OVToday.com. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Sonny Boy Restaurant- Great Food for Four Decades

I have lived in the Ohio Valley for most of my life. In that time, I have driven past this restaurant hundreds of times. It sits right on Route 40, so it is very convenient to get to. Well, I am a little embarrassed to say that it took me so long to stop in and try it out. What took me so long???

Summer Means Fairs and Festivals

Summer has officially begun and with it comes hot weather, vacations, and time for family to do fun things. We wanted to help you a bit and give you a very comprehensive list of Ohio Valley fairs and festivals. They are listed in the order of when they begin. Also, don't forget to check out other events going on around you looking at our Events Calendar.

Considering Online Colleges? Read This First!

In the past few years, as many jobs now require higher skills and a college degree, many adults have been going back to school. But that can be difficult because now it means juggling an education with a family and a job. As a result, online colleges have gained in popularity as the ideal choice for an already busy life schedule.

Ohio Valley Farmer's Market Finds a New Home

For the past few years, the weekly Farmer's Market has been set up in downtown St. Clairsville. Space and convenient parking were a bit of a problem. But this year, the market has found a new home that will off plenty of parking and easy, convenient access to the taste and quality of farm-fresh products…

Why Shop Locally? For You!

OVToday was born because of the lack of easy-to-access information about all that the Ohio Valley has to offer its citizens. Not that much of the information wasn't available some of the time— the problem is that it might be available for a day or so and was in one of dozens of places, but now we attempt to put it in one place, available all of the time and as close as your computer screen.

One of the most little-known and unappreciated areas about our valley is the wide variety of choices of products and services offered by your local businesses. That is why two sections of this website concentrate on bringing you information about what can be purchased locally (our business directory) and make some of the valley's local offerings available for you to purchase online (our soon-to-be-released online stores area).

How important is it to shop locally, really?

If you have ever walked through a downtown that was filled with empty buildings, you already should have a pretty good idea. If you think about it, a town, in large part, is defined by the businesses, shops, and restaurants found there. So is the unemployment rate. And, most importantly in my opinion, the number of young people that stay home rather than flee to other parts of the country is directly determined by the number of businesses that offer an opportunity to our young.

See All Worlds Earthquakes- Real Time!

USGS logoThe recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile have caused a surge in interest on the Internet. Earthquakes are actually much more common than many people realize. In fact, it is estimated that several million earthuakes occur in the world every year. Thankfully, most of them are very mild and only a few come any where near those that make the evening news.

Beautiful Saturday Drive Leads to Pleasant Discovery

If you have been visiting our site for any short length of time, you may have noticed that when I discover a place that I think has a quality that makes it a unique find, I like to pass the word on to the rest of my friends. (Of course, if you find some place or thing you really want to let others know about on this site, hit the contact menu button and pass it on to us.)...

AdenaNews.com- REAL Home Town Pride

I have found what I consider to be a "must see" website. You can take my word for one thing: Operating a website can take a lot of time and effort. So when I find one that has the depth of information found at AdenaNews.com, it is a combination of admiration of the effort needed and pride at the fact that it is an Adena resident doing it. The site is managed in its entirety by Carol Bednar.
